Transforming the programmed nature

In Chinese Medicine, the inner organs are key to the state of health of our body. However the inner organs philosophy not only is about the physical organs. It much more deals with the inner organs Qi and the nature of its function and place within the whole. Each inner organ is related to a different emotion and a so-called ‘programmed nature’.

Transforming the programmed nature is key to your well-being on an emotional, mental and physical level. It appeals to the information level of our being that started to develop already from our conception on. When you transform the information from the Yin (negative) to the Yang (positive) nature, the Qi (energy) and Body (physical) will follow. Information is like the blueprint for the way we experience life.

Master Wang Fengyi – Five Element Healing

The practice of transforming the programmed nature was founded by master Wang Fengyi (1864 – 1937, China). He lived in China during a time of great poverty and famine in a poor farmer’s family and at a certain moment he seriously fell ill. Doctors predicted that he only had a short time left to live. However, he didn’t yet want to die and started to try find out what was really happening.

He then realised that already for a long time he was angry at his brothers. Even thought there was little money, each time they went gambling and got even bigger debts. Next to that he thought bad of his sister since she treated their parents very badly. Once he got aware of all these emotions within himself, lingering for already a long time, he found out this was the key to healing. He realised he could not blame his brothers, since they were not happy with what they did. Also his sister was not to blame.

A blend of Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism and Chinese medicine

Through this deep realisation he got healthy again and started to share what he had discovered. Later on he developed a powerful combination of ideas and practices from Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism and Chinese medicine.

When you already know a little bit about Traditional Chinese Medicine, you know that the inner organs are related to the emotions of joy, fear, anger, sadness and worry. Master Wang added the five virtues and the five ‘programmed natures’.

Teacher Ning – transforming the programmed nature & Qigong

When Qigong teacher Ning heard about this method of transforming the programmed nature he got intrigued. Looking back, he can say that even though he had already practiced (Zhineng) Qigong for a long time, this method of master Wang changed his life.

When practicing energy, you need to know how to steer it

When you practice Qigong, you learn to work on the energy level. Practitioners with a high gongfu level, have built up high energy levels. When you have this bigger amount of energy available, it is important to know how to steer it for Well-Being. If you don’t, it can very well be that the energy flows into negative thinking and feeling that gets enhanced with energy and hurt the body.

When for instance you have a lot of energy available, but you are always complaining about the others, this will hurt your stomach and pancreas. Teacher Ning has observed this with Qigong colleagues who were very well respected for their Qigong practice level, but never learned about how to transform their emotions and thinking.

Example: resenting others hurts the stomach

For example the conditioned nature of the stomach is one of resentment. When you (often) resent others, the world or yourself, you hurt the stomach Qi. On the other hand, when the stomach Qi is weak, you will more easily resent others, the world and yourself. In the practice of ‘Transforming the programmed nature’, on the one hand you try to be aware of this in daily living (work from outside in), while on the other hand you can make use of ‘Calling the Spirit’ exercises to make this easier from inside out.

‘Calling the spirit of the inner organs’ is a way to wake up the inner organs to function again the way they originally were supposed to function. It is a way to heal and better manage our emotions.

What participants say about this…

Qi Friends vriendenavond

I just wanted to let teacher Ning know that I found that last Sundays lesson resonated very strongly with my recent health issues and I had a most positive reaction.

When my 4/5 lumbar collapsed I searched for the symbol attached to this symptom.

In several references I found “excessive willpower”, a form of stubbornness! I  recognized myself immediately (though very much in my shadow)! During Sundays session something fell away and I felt so much lighter. I love his phrase “ there is a long distance from knowing to being” (I resonate with that as well)

It is said that a teacher or therapist can only bring a seeker as far as he’s been himself.

In my view teacher Ning embodies this idea and transmits his knowledge through his direct experience, always maintaining a simple non judgmental humane approach.

I feel that these modules that we are doing this winter are very potent and for me very concrete tools for deep change. Personally my emotional equanimity is immensely improved thanks to his classes on the organs.

love yourself as if your life depends on it

Thank you very much, I enjoyed each and everyone of these classes! I found it very powerful and would like to know more about its origins. Even after weeks of practicing the sounds I keep feeling changes in Qi flow and mind attitude.
