The meaning of Open & Close (La Qi) according to teacher Ning
In Zhineng Qigong there is great emphasis on the movement of open and close for the use of external Qi for healing, self-development, progress and wisdom. In March 2022 Teacher Ning shared his insights and experience with this technique. He shares a powerful Open-Close (La Qi) exercise, but also elaborates on the meaning of open and close on the internal organs.
I was a Zhineng Qigong teacher and teached Zhineng Qigong for many years. After that I went to various traditional Qigong branches.
In Zhineng Qigong when we do Lift Qi Up Pour Qi Down, the purpose is to open and close. When you gather some energy and you send the energy into the body and it will work in the whole body. So many people get benefit from this practice.
There was a man who had a severe heart condition. At that moment he already learned Zhineng Qigong. He knew about open and close. Sometimes when he did not want to practice the entire form, he made use of the mind to open and close. He was still a beginner. Het got some benefit, but not yet so much. One day he got a heart attack. When he felt something was going on with his heart, he started to use his mind to lead his heart to open and close. A few minutes later he went in coma, because there was a big heart attack – the main artery of the heart was blocked. His family brought him to the hospital. Usually in his condition, people would die. But when the doctor checked his body, he found out the micro-circulation of the heart worked very well. That is how he survived the situation and he said open and close helped him to survive this heart attack.
One man had an artery inflammation which was a very dangerous situation. The doctor had already put him in the hospital and he was ready for surgery, because the doctor was afraid the inflammation would move up to the organs. He then learned from his teacher and asked the doctor if he could wait a few more days because he wanted to try something with Zhineng Qigong. So, he did like this – because he could not stand up – bring blue skies energy in, sending energy in (close) and then open the energy (out). After a few days the situation was getting better. Finally the doctor told him he did not need the surgery. He continued to send energy in (close) and open. After one year he was almost completely recovered.
Through these two examples we get to know that open – close can help people from severe conditions. This is why Zhineng Qigong was very popular in China; it helped a lot of people.
How to really use open and close?
Most of us do not have these severe conditions like these two man. We do have some conditions in the physical body. How can we apply open and close to help ourselves?
I would like to do it like this:
- open – close – to gather the universal energy in between your hands.
- Then send the energy into your body where it is needed.
- And to melt the energy blockage. Maybe it is in the stomach, the abdomen, or wherever it is; melt the blockage. To release and open there, so that energy can flow freely again.
- Ending the practice; mind concentrates on five places: the fingers, toes and tailbone. Let the energy flow there.
This is an entire self-healing session while using the universal energy.
So let’s now do it. (video on 12:45 minutes)
